One of the frequently asked questions. In the past, haircut before the brain tumor surgery was recommended for the prevention of wound infection. However, whether the haircut before brain tumor surgery was related to the prevention of infection or not was not shown in studies. Apart from infection, the cutting of hair before brain tumor surgery is related to the preference of the surgeon. Because sterilization and covering of the area to be operated without cutting the hair requires a little more care. In surgeries without haircut, the patients should be reminded to not wash her/his hair for 10 days, since water should not contact the incision area for about 10 days. In my own opinion, I say that surgery can be done without cutting the hair to patients who do not want their haircut for cosmetic reasons. However, the cutting the hair in surgery area especially in patients who do not have such a request is a routine practice for me.
